These three accomplished leaders bring a wealth of experience from both the public and private sectors that will significantly contribute to the Truman Center’s mission to provide timely research and insights on U.S. national security to national, state, and local decision-makers charged with preserving our democratic freedoms, defending the nation and protecting Americans, maintaining U.S. global leadership and our strategic competitive edge.
Travis LeBlanc is a nationally recognized expert in cybersecurity, data privacy, and emerging technologies. Travis co-chairs Cooley’s global cyber/data/privacy practice, and serves as a Board Member on the U.S. Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, a bipartisan agency charged with ensuring the federal government’s national security activities protect privacy and civil liberties. His extensive experience working with federal agencies, including DoJ, the FCC, FTC, SEC, and the Intelligence Community cement his reputation as an authority on cybersecurity, data privacy, telecommunications, and emerging and innovative technologies. Moreover, Travis is a dedicated advocate for the protection of civil liberties in the digital age. Previously, Travis served as the FCC’s chief of enforcement, an attorney in DoJ’s Office of Legal Counsel, and as Vice President Kamala Harris’s Special Assistant Attorney General when she was California’s Attorney General.
"Travis’s deep expertise at the intersection of technology, privacy, and civil liberties is exactly what we need as we continue navigating the ever-evolving challenges in the digital realm,” said Truman Center’s CEO and President Tony Johnson, “His strategic insight will be invaluable to our efforts to safeguard national security while protecting the fundamental rights of all Americans."
Peter Dixon is the Founder of Second Front Systems, a venture-backed, public benefit company that solves a multi-billion dollar technology transition challenge for the US military. He also founded With Honor, a nonprofit that has helped elect over thirty veterans to Congress and facilitated the passage of more than 150 pieces of legislation. Peter serves as a board observer for Reveal Technology and is an advisory board member for Carolina for Kibera. Previously, he led a Pentagon initiative to integrate disruptive technology into military operations and served as a special advisor at the State Department, where he tackled issues like cartel violence and corruption. Peter also advised Iraqi security forces and led Marines in combat in Afghanistan. Peter is the proud father of three girls and lives with his wife Gina in Portola Valley, CA.
“Peter’s work at the intersection of technology and national security embodies the forward-thinking approach we need as we confront the security challenges of tomorrow. His work to combat violence and corruption demonstrates his commitment to Truman’s values. Peter’s leadership, heart, and entrepreneurial mindset will help Truman continue to drive the development of innovative and principled solutions for our national defense," said Truman CEO and President Tony Johnson.
Attorney and Veteran United States Marine Corps fighter pilot Gordon Griffin brings both legal and military expertise to the Truman Center’s board. Gordon is a partner in Holland & Knight’s litigation group, where he focuses on federal real estate development, aerospace and defense procurement, and private equity transactions involving contractors in the national security space. Gordon serves as the chair of Holland & Knight’s veterans group, and leads the firm’s pro bono efforts in support of veterans and active duty servicemembers. Prior to joining Holland & Knight, Gordon clerked for Chief Judge James Baker at the United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces, the final court of appellate review before the Supreme Court for all courts-martial in the United States military. Before his legal career, Gordon flew F/A-18 Hornets in the Marine Corps and deployed for one year to the Al Anbar Province of Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“Gordon’s experience as a decorated military officer and as a seasoned attorney uniquely positions him to provide expertise on issues at the intersection of defense, policy, and governance,” said Johnson. “His leadership and deep commitment to public service will be a tremendous asset to our organization.”
The Truman Center looks forward to the invaluable perspectives and contributions that Travis, Peter, and Gordon will bring as they join the Board of Directors.
