WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Truman Center for National Policy (501c3) is proud to welcome Damon Wilson as Board Member.

In this position, he will help guide Truman’s mission, advancing whole-of-society American leadership for human rights, inclusion, prosperity and security at home and around the globe. Mr. Wilson’s extraordinary career in national security, presently as Executive Vice President of the Atlantic Council, will bring tremendous expertise to our community.

“Damon is a leading thinker on U.S. national security and has a strong track record of strengthening global alliances to further peace and security,” said Jenna Ben-Yehuda, Truman’s President and CEO. “Together with his experience driving impressive organizational growth, we’re especially excited to welcome him to the Truman family as we continue to expand our work both at home and abroad.”

Prior to joining the Atlantic Council, Mr. Wilson served as Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for European Affairs at the National Security Council from 2007-2009. He played a leading role in developing and coordinating U.S. government efforts to work with all European nations, including Turkey, as well as the EU, NATO, and the OSCE; to advance a whole and free Europe, counter Russian aggression and find solutions to a range of global challenges.

Mr. Wilson has also served at the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad as the Executive Secretary and Chief of Staff, where he helped manage one of the largest American embassies during a time of conflict. He has also served as Deputy Director in the Private Office of former NATO Secretary General Lord Robertson, playing a lead role on the alliance’s response to 9/11 and its operations in Afghanistan and the Western Balkans.

Mr. Wilson is a French speaker and completed his master’s degree at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School for Public and International Affairs. He graduated summa cum laude from Duke University as a Benjamin N. Duke Leadership Scholar and also studied at the University of Grenoble, France.

He is from Charleston, South Carolina and lives in Washington, D.C with his husband David Van Lear.
