On Memorial Day 2017, the Truman National Security Project San Diego Chapter will host the third annual Sunrise Rose Drop. Held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, the second largest national cemetery in the nation, this event aims to recognize the sacrifice of U.S. servicemembers and their families by asking volunteers to walk the cemetery and place roses on each grave.
Last year, the Truman San Diego Chapter recruited 120 volunteers to help drop a total of 6,600 roses across the cemetery. This year, they aim to involve 500 volunteers and distribute 56,630 roses. The event will begin with a small ceremony that will feature a few speakers, including veterans and frontline civilians who have lost colleagues and loved ones. This ceremony will be followed by the rose drop.
