Vets Group: Congress Putting Politics Before National Security with 'Stop War on Coal' Bill

Washington, DC – In response to the House of Representatives’ consideration of the  'Stop the War on Coal' bill, Operation Free Advocacy Director Brandon Fureigh released the following statement:

“We are extremely disappointed that on its last day in session before the election, the Republican-controlled House has chosen to focus on legislation that is not only politically motivated, but outright dangerous for our national security.

“A consensus of security leaders from both parties recognize that America’s dependence on fossil fuels poses a serious threat to our national security.  The Department of Defense says that climate change is a threat multiplier – destabilizing weak states and turning them into safe havens for terrorist organizations like al-Qaeda.

“It is reprehensible that Congress is fighting the military’s investments in renewable energy and failing to extend policies like the Wind Production Tax Credit, while championing legislation that would adversely affect public health, the economy, and the environment. It’s time this Congress puts our economic and national security before partisan politics.”
