Truman Project Unveils National Security Briefing Book

Briefing Book Contains Essential National Security Message Guidance for Politicos, Capitol Hill Staff and Security Experts

Washington, DC – Last night, the Truman National Security Project launched its 2012 Truman Security Briefing Book - the most comprehensive foreign policy and messaging guide book ever released on 21st century national security policy. Truman Project leaders were joined by special guest, House Armed Services Committee Ranking Member Adam Smith (D-WA) and members of the Truman community.

"America faces a hyper-connected future. The security threats we face, from pandemic disease, to the economic contagion that challenges our workers, and the virulent terrorist networks that threaten our security, are born of this hyper-connectivity. The Truman Security Briefing Book is intended to help America's leaders understand these challenges and provide them with smart, principled guidance on how to overcome them," said Mike Breen, Truman Project Vice President.

"Instability the world over is a threat and we need all the tools in the toolbox to combat it. We need a strong military but we also need a strong commitment to diplomacy, development and democracy. We need to show what a strong national security message looks like and the Truman Security Briefing Book will help Members of Congress and candidates do just that," said Rep. Adam Smith, Ranking Member of the House Armed Services Committee.

The Truman Project's Security Briefing Book is a one-of-a-kind tool for political practitioners, Capitol Hill staff, and the broader national security community. It outlines the 21st century solutions to America's national security and foreign policy challenges. Each chapter, designed to be easy to read and digestible, contains essential background, key facts, policy options, and message guidance. The Security Briefing Book was previously known as the National Security Manual and is published during each Congressional Cycle.
