FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
TruCon 2024 will honor Representative Justin J. Pearson and Representative Justin Jones
WASHINGTON D.C., MAY 15 - The Truman Center announced today the selection of Representative Justin J. Pearson and Representative Justin Jones from Tennessee as the distinguished recipients of the 2024 Award for Exceptional Moral Courage in Public Service. This prestigious award will be presented at TruCon 2024, the organization's premier annual conference, taking place on Friday, May 31, 2024, in Washington, DC.
The Award for Exceptional Moral Courage in Public Service honors individuals whose unwavering commitment to integrity and values propels them to champion what is just and right, even in the face of adversity. Notable past honorees include Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman (ret.), Mayor Muriel Bowser, Amb. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, and Congressman Jamie Raskin.
"Representative Pearson and Representative Jones's unwavering commitment to morality and values embodies the spirit of the Truman Center's mission. Their advocacy for gun control reform, despite personal risk and political condemnation, underscores their dedication to the safety and well-being of their constituents," said Tripp Adams, Interim President and CEO of the Truman Center.
"The events following the March 2023 Covenant School shooting, including their courageous protest in the Tennessee House of Representatives, demonstrate their steadfast resolve to uphold democratic principles and bring about meaningful change. Their actions speak volumes about their integrity and their willingness to stand up for what is right, regardless of the consequences," said Adams.
TruCon, renowned for hosting influential speakers like Vice President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, and Rachel Maddow, will be streamed live to the public. Following the award presentation, Representative Pearson and Representative Jones will address attendees at TruCon 2024.
“I am honored and humbled to receive this recognition on behalf of our district and community,” said Representative Pearson. “The fight for justice and democracy is inextricably linked to uplifting marginalized communities. As elected officials, it means bringing those individuals who have been pushed to the periphery of society and governance to the center of our work. I thank the Truman Center for serving as a beacon of justice and shining the light on those who work and sacrifice for the greater good of our communities, nation and world.”
Hosted by the Truman Center, TruCon brings together thought leaders to discuss pressing national security issues. This year’s conference will feature discussions on topics such as attracting diverse tech talent to the defense sector, defending democracy in America against authoritarian threats, how to build values-based tech policy, and changing narratives on immigration.
