I was disappointed to read Rep. Mike Pompeo’s Opinion article, “End Wind Energy Tax Credit” (POLITICO, Aug. 29), which misrepresents the production tax credit. This business tax credit has bipartisan support and allows developers to raise private capital in the marketplace and bring renewable energy projects to completion — similar in effect to the many tax breaks that the fossil fuel industries now receive.
Military and national security leaders recognize that our reliance on fossil fuels is a threat to our security, and they’re taking steps to address this by investing in alternative energy sources like wind, solar and biofuels. As an Army veteran who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom, I have a vested interest in keeping America safe and strong. The production tax credit, which drives renewable energy production by giving companies a benefit for producing clean, renewable wind power, is an investment we must continue to make — and one that brings local communities and our nation huge returns. . . .
