Washington, D.C. – Today, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed new renewable fuel standards (RFS) that will apply through 2016. The requirements mandate the percentage by volume of renewable fuels, including advanced biofuels, which producers of transportation fuels must blend into their products.
In response to the proposed updates to the RFS, Truman Project Chief Strategy Officer Brandon Fureigh said:
“We are disappointed in the EPA’s proposed levels for advanced biofuels. These promising fuels could dramatically reduce our nation’s dependence on fossil fuels and slash emissions that contribute to climate change.
The U.S. military is leading the way in developing and deploying advanced biofuels because they understand our dependence on fossil fuels threatens our troops and our national security. The Renewable Fuel Standards should encourage the private sector to be equally innovative and forward-looking.
EPA should increase advanced biofuels levels in the final rule to help further the progress we have made in pursuing these promising technologies.”
